Jason Howitt
Dr Howitt heads the Protein Trafficking and Signalling laboratory at the Florey Institute. His interests span from single protein interactions through to animal models of disease combined with the analysis of human tissue. Dr Howitt’s laboratory studies molecular signalling pathways in both neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism, and pathway alterations occurring in neurodegenerative diseases. His laboratory has created new techniques for the identification of exosome function in vivo and is focussed on understanding the transmission of neurodegenerative proteins in the aging brain. Dr Howitt performed postdoctoral studies overseas at both Imperial College, London, and Brookhaven National Laboratory, New York, before returning to Australia in 2006 as an NHMRC Howard Florey Centenary Fellow. He is currently a Deputy Division Head and Chair of the Florey Faculty at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health.
